Opening Your Account

Once you've completed the Get Checking class and received your Certificate of Completion (following payoff of any outstanding prior account balances if applicable), you can return to the Financial Institution that referred you to the Get Checking program to open your account.

Before you go to the financial institution, you may want to call them to be sure you have everything you need to open your account when you go to the branch with your Certificate of Completion.

Requirements vary with each referring institution, but you'll normally need:

• Proper Identification – two forms of identification are normally needed (including at least one ID with a photo)
  
• Proof that you've paid off you Outstanding Account Balances – your instructor can give you guidance on how to accomplish this
  
• Your Original Get Checking Certificate – will be kept by the referring financial institution. You may want to make a copy of your Certificate for your records before returning to the referring financial institution
